Optimism is over-rated.

I've said it before, and now I'll say it again - optimism is over-rated. I'm not saying we can't try to look on the bright side of things.. as I've attempted this 2010, but I really get tired of all these crazy new age people who generically tell you you should think positive thoughts to live a better life. Really? I had no idea that's what I should do!! Two things come to mind when I hear this.. one is "bite me," and the other is, (in tired, frustrated, low, country voice) "shit" as my dad would say... don't tell me that I shouldn't FEEL BAD! OR THINK BAD THOUGHTS, OK? It's going to happen to everyone, unless you're Jesus... and I bet he had a few he didn't have his peeps put in the bible, OK..
Contrary to how it sounds, I like psychics, astrology, to get my fortune read by crazy hack-wadding ladies with old man-voices, and yes, I believe if our mind's are healthy we have a better chance at living life, and not just writing about our fantasies.. like I've been resorted to..
maybe one day this will all change.. maybe I'll find my escape and it'll be the real deal.. maybe my log will be lit on fire.. maybe I will..?
But until then, I'll continue to bitch about it because it FEELS GOOD!

Francis Bacon (the painter not Shakespeare's ghost writer) once said he was an optimist about nothing. Look where it got him!
Feeling bad makes you feel

Feeling bad makes you feel good? I can see the draw of wallowing in dark feelings, because at least they feel strong and undeniable. But, I think what you're saying is sad!
Haven't you ever read about that study or something where they told people who were unhappy to force a smile until they felt happier? It sounds stupid, but I think they did eventually feel happier.
Maybe you need to keep smiling...
